Mizunara Dining table

Overview:

Large mizunara dining table and bench for a ski chalet near Annupuri. Built from Hokkaido-grown mizunara, it’s a straightforward table designed to cope with big family meals and long winter stays, looking straight out over the snow.

Specifications:

Material: Solid Hokkaido mizunara (Japanese oak)
Size: Approx. 2600 × 1000 mm table, 10-seater
Top detail: Two boards joined with a live edge in the centre, stabilised with through bow-tie keys
Edges: Outer edges squared with a small eased detail for a clean, modern line
Base: Simple mizunara leg frames with apron rails, set in to allow seating at the ends
Seating: Matching mizunara bench; existing chairs by others
Finish: Durable osmo finish suited to a rental/holiday home

Our Role:

We built the top and base in the Island Snowboards workshop, starting with rough mizunara boards and laying them out to keep the characterful grain and live centre joint.

The leg design was kept deliberately simple and heavy enough to feel solid, while leaving space for a chair at each end. We made the matching bench to echo the table without overpowering the room.

Delivery was done the Niseko way, carried in by hand through around a metre of snow from the driveway. The table was assembled, levelled and finished on site.
