Takumi Woodwork was established by Louis Higgins, a time-served carpenter and joiner from the Isle of Man, U.K. In Japan since 2015, furniture is our passion.

Who we are, Why we exist, How we work, What we doTakumi Woodwork is a small furniture workshop in Niseko, Hokkaido.
The team is five people from Japan and overseas, working in the same building as the showroom.
Most of the work is solid timber tables, cabinets and small runs of pieces for houses, apartments and hospitality projects. Parts are designed, machined and finished in the workshop, then delivered and installed locally or shipped within Japan and overseas.
Why we existTakumi Woodwork exists to make solid timber furniture for houses, apartments and small businesses in and around Niseko. The workshop fills the gap between disposable flat-pack and expensive imports by building pieces that actually fit local spaces and can be repaired or altered over time. Keeping design, machining and finishing in one place in Hokkaido makes repeat orders, small runs and awkward one-off jobs possible without sending work out of the area.
How we workReady-made items from our online shop and Kutchan showroom can be bought on demand/ off the shelf. We also can craft commissioned furniture and interiors based on your specific needs.
